ADDRESSING VIOLENCE IN THE HOME AND COMMUNITY

Panel presentation by members of the Springfield Police Department, Springfield Urban League, Sojourn Shelter and University of Illinois, Chicago

SILENT WITNESS

In 1990, the Silent Witness Initiative began promoting education to support an end to domestic violence through community based exhibits.  It started with a small group of volunteers in one state and grew into an international presence, with projects in all 50 states and 23 countries. www.silentwitness.net/

Each one has a story.

Because we need to remember their stories.

We need to remember their names.

Each silhouette is representative of a woman, child or man who was killed by an act of domestic violence.  Their name and stories are summarized on the chest shield.  This display was in the Dean's Lobby, second floor of 801 Rutledge.

This Silent Witness exhibit was on loan from The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Springfield Office.  www.ilcadv.org/
