Evidence-Based Medicine

A guide to evidence-based medicine (EBM) resources and information

What is Evidence Based Medicine?

Evidence Based Medicine is "the process of systematically finding, appraising and using the best available research findings, integrated with clinical expertise, as the basis for clinical decisions about individual patients."

This type of practice is in contrast with what is known as "Eminence Based Medicine" in which a prominent or senior health care worker's opinion and experience are placed above the process of finding and appraising quality evidence.

Evidence Based Medicine will ideally incorporate experience, research evidence, and patient preference.

Evidence-Based Practice is clinical expertise, best research evidence, and patient values        EBP Process
